In The Beginning, Paradise Independent Living, LLC. est. 2004 in Houston, Texas with nothing but motherly love for my son in mind and mental healing for myself. From ages 9 to 12 years old, I was rape (Some may say molested but I say raped) by a so-called friend of the family. Being raised in the south it was nothing for a grown man to mess with little girls and people would just turn a blind eye like they didn't know, that's still to this day not just in the south but now globally. Through it all I stand to tell my story to let victims know you are not alone. In most underserved communities' resources are very little or if any at all.
As a young single parent, it was very hard for me to understand the difference in “bad behavior” and mental illness, yet knew it was my duty to help my son. I started my mental health advocacy journey in 2004 with focus to Educate, Collaborate and Motivate. My life personal experiences along with my son disabilities most definitely darken many days. My son who is now grown have been diagnosed with several mental health disabilities however he is physically independent. The challenging steps that any family may have to help suffering adult loved ones is a seemingly never-ending road. We portray empathy and compassion toward the hope and support that could help ones overcome struggle that life gives at times. Our like-minded community offers the love, support and unity to our clients as well family members (virtually) to help rebuild self-esteem in hopes to help reduce heartbreaking suicides, violent sexual & physical abuse crimes against women/children/men and decrease of homelessness. Our programs offer safe secure housing, virtual peer support, career training and many other resources.
